Magnetic Pigment – Copper Ferrite (CuFe₂O₄)

This is a magnetic ceramic pigment made from copper ferrite (CuFe₂O₄). When used dry or mixed into a binder, it responds visibly to external magnets, allowing you to create textured, magnet-reactive surfaces in paint, ink, resin, and experimental media.

▶️ See the short video for a live demonstration of the magnetic response.

The synthesis process for this pigment is documented each time, and batch-level production details are maintained by the maker. Background information on materials, firing regimes, and characterization methods is publicly available via elementalcolor dot com.

This copper ferrite pigment is: solid magnetic powder (ferrite ceramic), chemically stable, heat-resistant inorganic pigment; deep black / very dark charcoal tone, suitable as an additive in paint, ink, resin, plaster, and coatings.

It is: not a ferrofluid, not self-magnetizing without an external magnet, not a rare-earth magnet (nor is one included). Magnetic behavior depends on pigment loading and magnet strength.

Common uses

* Magnetic paintings and textured surfaces

* Magnet-responsive inks and experimental printmaking

* Sculpture, mixed media, and material studies

* Educational and exploratory materials experiments

This pigment is often used where interaction and structure matter more than flat color alone.

Fine ceramic powder; mix thoroughly into your chosen medium, for best results, use strong neodymium magnets

elemental color forges pigments under the same processes employed in aerospace, semiconductor manufacturing, and optics. Reagents are sourced from the same suppliers and at the same standards as those used in optoelectric materials development. And all pigments are subject to an ongoing stress, failure, and boundary test regime published openly. There are no grades, dyes, or contingencies--color is real or it isn't.

This listing is intended for artistic, experimental, and educational use. Not for human consumption, wear appropriate PPE when handling any pigment powder.
